Sonoma, CA (August 29, 2011) - Randy began his doubleheader weekend at the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix Presented by StopTech at Infineon Raceway on a high note with a charity event and a great practice and qualifying session. Randy and his #6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 led the final practice on Friday and then qualified third for Saturday's race. From the standing start, Randy was able to get a great launch and soared to the lead, earning him the Cadillac CTS-V Move of the Race. He led until lap four when the Gremlins came back and the Volvo began to have engine problems, causing him to drop out of the race.
"The K-PAX team has been working so hard but we are still beset by Gremlins. Its insane. Our high point came in qualifying where we ran so well. The car was handling great. I jumped into the lead on the start of the race and had a few good laps. Then something in the engine failed and we were done. Luckily we were able to set the fourth quickest lap which helped for the grid on Sunday's race."
Sunday's race started out with both hope and trepidation. The team had worked hard to fix the problem that had occurred Saturday . The grid was set based on lap times during Saturday’s first race, putting Randy in fourth. Randy again got a great launch, briefly splitting the two Cadillacs but was not able to maintain the position. The Volvo again began to lose power but was able to finish the race in thirteenth position.
"The engine didn't have adequate power right from the start. I got a great launch and split the two Cadillacs but didn't have enough to stay there. It kept running but didn't have the usual horsepower. We have really improved the car's handling and are doing well on starts. We will continue to work on the reliability that we enjoyed last year that helped us win the championship. Congratulations to our TC Volvo C30 teammate Aaron Povoledo who won his class on Sunday."
"We were happy to host Volvo North America top executives Geno Effler, Jay Hamil and Tim Fissinger and his son Michael this weekend. We were very excited to test drive the new 2012 Volvo S60 R-Design, that is a higher performance version of our current car. On Thursday evening, myself and other team members took part in the "Wheeling in Wine Country" charity bicycle ride which took us several laps around the Infineon road course. It was very challenging to ride a bicycle around the steep turns and I actually went 40 MPH downhill which is very fast on a bike. I felt like Spiderman. It was good exercise and a lot of fun. I would also like to thank my personal sponsors, WeatherTech, ChaseCam and saferacer.com for their support and the K-PAX team for working so hard and not giving up. We are looking ahead to next year."

Randy is a proud supporter of the Energy For Life Walk Western New York which raises money for research of mitochondrial disease. Jennifer Schwartzott, Randy's press agent and writer of this release, has Mitochondrial Myopathy and is the chair for the walk. We have started a team called "Racers For Research" and are looking for virtual walkers and donors to support this important cause. Please visit www.energyforlifewalk.org/westernnewyork
and register to "walk" or make a donation. Researchers believe that a cure for mitochondrial disease will also mean a cure for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS and even cancer. Its time for a cure.
The Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix at Infineon Raceway will air on Versus, September 18 at 5:30 PM EST. Randy's next race will be at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, September 16 - 18, with the World Challenge GT series.
