< Back to News Home Bye Bye Gremlins!

Posted (09/18/2011) -
Monterey, CA (September 18, 2011) -  The Gremlins are gone!  Randy traveled back to California for round eleven of the Pirelli World Challenge GT series, ready to do battle at the Cadillac Sports Car Grand Prix Presented by Grassroots Motorsports at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  Randy and his #6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 had a solid practice and then grabbed the pole on the last lap of the qualifying session.  Randy's Volvo C30 teammate Aaron Povoledo also won the Touring Class pole for K-PAX but had mechanical issues at the end of the race.  Randy faired much better, getting a great launch off the grid and leading much of the race until he was passed by a Corvette in slower traffic.  He held off the other competition and finished in second!

"We had a great weekend...finally.  It shows you gotta have faith.  We got rid of our Gremlins in practice and were able to get the pole on the last lap of qualifying.  We got another great start from the pole and had a nice lead for quite awhile.  There was a lot of drama going on behind me with the Corvettes and Cadillacs bumping and banging.  I was kind of happy for all the yellows because our handling was not spot on.  The track temperature was 59 degrees warmer during the race than in qualifying.  The hot sun and warm weather changed the set-up and the handling was off which made it a bit of a struggle.  Skeen's Corvette was all over me.  I held him off as long as possible until we caught slower touring cars and he got by me.  It was a hard fought battle and I am happy with second.  It made me feel so good after such a tough year.  We are going to Road Atlanta next which suits us better and is not as hard on the brakes."

"I would like to thank the K-PAX team for never giving up and working so hard.  We hosted many guests this weekend from Volvo Rents, Volvo's construction rental company, and also the regional contest winners from Volvo's accessory sales departments.  We got to hang out and sign some autographs and have a great time.  I would also like to thank my personal sponsors, WeatherTech, ChaseCam and saferacer.com for their support.  Its really fabulous to be back in the saddle again.  It feels like last year."

Randy is a proud supporter of the Energy For Life Walk: Western New York, taking place next Sunday in Buffalo, NY, which raises money for research of mitochondrial disease.  Jennifer Schwartzott, Randy's press agent and writer of this release, has Mitochondrial Myopathy and is the chairperson for the walk.  We have started a team called "Racers For Research" and are looking for virtual walkers and donors to support this important cause.  Please visit www.energyforlifewalk.org/westernnewyork and register to "walk" or make a donation.  Researchers believe that a cure for mitochondrial disease will also mean a cure for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS and even cancer.  Its time for a cure!

The Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will air on Versus, Saturday, October 29 at 4:00 PM EST.  Randy's next race will be the season finale at Road Atlanta, September 28 - October 1, with the World Challenge GT series.
