Monterey, CA (May 12, 2012) - Randy and his #6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 team climbed the hills of Laguna Seca and the podium steps at Friday's 2012 Pirelli World Challenge GT Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to take the win and a top two for Volvo!  Randy earned the pole on Thursday and led the surge from flag to flag with teammate Alex Figge close behind, proving that the Volvos are back in top form.  Randy also set a new lap record and moved himself and Volvo into third place in the Championship standings.
"This was a breakout week for the K-PAX team.  Our engine and electronic troubles are solved and that has made a huge difference.  We spent more time on handling instead of making repairs and I was able to have fun tuning the car.  We thought this track would be good for our Volvos, with its low grip and slow corners where our all-wheel drive is a big help, but its also hard on brakes.  We have made a lot of progress in that department and it shows.  Qualifying on the pole was a thrill because the competition was close.  Will Moody really nailed the setup for the race.  That was the best balanced the car has ever been.  I didn't even have to turn the wheel much.  It just drifted in and out of the turns.  It wasn't work.  We had help from the two yellow flags which cooled the brakes.  It felt good to have Alex behind me as a Volvo cushion between the other cars.  Both Volvos ran well all week and it felt like 2010, working on the business of racing."
"This is redemption for the K-PAX team.  All of their hard work has paid off.  It was so fabulous to win again and watch the team cleaning the car instead of picking up the pieces.  This is my third race in a row with no mechanical issues.  We should also be good at Detroit.  I would like to thank my personal sponsors, WeatherTech, saferacer.com and TPC Racing for supporting us this weekend.  Off track, I had a good time with my Mazda friends, visiting the SPCA across from the race track.  It was heartwarming to see all the animals.  They even had a wild animal section which was pretty crazy.  What a great week!"
Randy fans should check out USA Today, possibly Monday's edition, for a K-PAX Volvo one-two win ad.    The Pirelli World Challenge Cadillac Sports Car Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be televised on NBC Sports Network on May 27 at 11:00 PM ET.  Keep your eyes out for the new Volvo TV commercial that will be seen during World Challenge races and other sporting events. The next race for the World Challenge GT is the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix June 1 - 3.  You can now watch live streaming on www.world-challengeTV.com on the day of races and continuously on demand after races.  Randy did double duty as a commentator for the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup this week, even driving a lap around the track in an MX-5 for in-car commentary before the race.  His broadcast will air on Velocity as part of the Mazda Motorsports Hour, June 9 and June 16 at Noon ET.
