Posted (08/06/2012) -
Lexington, Ohio (August 6, 2012) – Randy and his #6 K-PAX Volvo S60
team proved that they are again top contenders by dominating both races
of the Pirelli World Challenge Cadillac Mid-Ohio Grand Prix Presented by StopTech
doubleheader at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. On Friday, Randy won both
practice and qualifying with teammate Alex Figge close behind.
Saturday's late day race was hot and steamy with a track temperature of
111 degrees. Randy jumped to the lead on the planned rolling start and
never looked back until the podium of the second race. Unfortunately,
teammate Alex Figge did not fair as well in the first race, as
overheating problems forced him into the paddock early. After severe
thunderstorms over night, the Sunday morning rain and Indycar delays
caused the race to start later than expected. The planned standing
start was called off due to weather and poor track conditions for a
safer singe-file, rolling start. The Volvo's all-wheel drive was a
definite advantage on the very slick Mid-Ohio track surface which
caused many other drivers to spin or go off course. After a long
caution, Randy showed everyone how wet racing is done and won the race,
with Alex in second. The K-PAX team is back to the top.

"This weekend, my #6 K-PAX Volvo S60 was like a phoenix rising from the
ashes. With no races in July, the K-PAX team used that time very
efficiently and not only repaired the cars, but also improved the S60s
so that they were better than ever. The weekend was influenced by five
hundredths of a second. That was the margin for the pole qualifying
position in race one and, coincidently, race two. This gave our Volvo
the clean air of the lead which was an asset on both days. The two
races were utterly different. Race one was over ninety degrees, sunny
and hot. Sunday's race was drizzly and cooler with less grip. The
track was even oiled down twice by less fortunate cars. In both cases,
the all-wheel drive was our not so secret weapon, along with our
suspension setups by the brilliant Will Moody. The Pirelli rain tires
were excellent and actually reduced our all-wheel drive advantage. It
was a K-PAX comeback week for our team. We realized more of the
potential that we've had all season for good finishes."

"I want to thank my business manager, Jennifer Drews, for managing my
affairs all weekend and my longtime friend, Jean Kinser, for
introducing me to Kevin Butterworth and Wellness Racing. I also want
to thank our sponsor, John Maloney, the President and CEO of Volvo Cars
North America, who spent the weekend with us. Thanks also goes to my
personal sponsors, WeatherTech, TPC Racing, and saferacer.com for their
continuing support. I am going to be driving the Pikes Peak Hill Climb
next week with 034 Motorsport in an Audi A4 Time Attack car with
all-wheel drive, a big turbo and 500 horse, not unlike my K-PAX Volvo.
My champion co-driver, Christian Miller, normally drives this car in
Time Attack events on the west coast. This is the 90th running of the
climb and the first year it has been all paved. I ran the hill climb
on dirt in 1995 and am very excited to go back to the mountain."

Randy will again be joining the Racers For Research team in the Energy
For Life Walk New York to raise money for research to cure
Mitochondrial Disease. Randy's press agent, Jennifer Schwartzott, has
the disease and is asking the racing community to join the fight by
clicking the EFL link on randypobst.com and joining the walk as a
virtual walker or donor. 1 out of every 200 people has the genetic
mutation and could develop the disease and it is closely linked to
numerous other diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Please
join the fight! The Cadillac Mid-Ohio Grand Prix will air on NBC
Sports Network at 1:30 PM ET on Saturday, August 25. The next Pirelli World Challenge GT
race will be the season finale weekend at Sonoma, August 24-26. You
can watch live streaming on www.world-challengeTV.com on the day of
races and continuously on demand after races.
