Toronto, ON, Canada (July 14, 2013) - After a podium finish at Lime Rock just over a week ago, Randy and his No. 6 K-PAX Racing Volvo S60 team headed north of the border for round ten of the Pirelli World Challenge GT championships and some fast-paced street racing.  Drama started early for the K-PAX team when Randy's Volvo had a parts failure during the practice session.  Then in qualifying, debris from a crash ahead of Randy damaged his Volvo, forcing him to go to a backup car and the rear of the GT grid.  The new Volvo, although low on power, handled well and Randy finished in fifth place.  Alex, who had started in the second spot and was a serious threat to win, spun in some fluid and finished in eighth.
"What a crazy weekend.  In practice, the Volvo broke a steering rack.  Our K-PAX team was able to fix that in time for the next session.  For qualifying, I had so little time in practice, I was still learning the track and getting faster every lap.  I came roaring onto the front straight to find a Mercedes had just crashed and big parts were everywhere.  No yellow flags had been displayed yet and I was committed.  I hit a control arm and other debris, which broke an oil cooler and badly damaged the car.  With only a few hours before the race, we had no choice but to go to the spare car.  The crew got it ready and away we went."
"The spare car was down on power from the get go but handled pretty well.  We got our typical Volvo launch and got sixth on the start.  Ten laps in, the car lost power but I was able to hang behind the lead pack.  We were about 100 horsepower down and even with the GTS cars on the straight.  Alex was leading when a GTS car hit a tire wall filled with water from all the rain Toronto got this week and it doused the track.  Cars were sliding around and Alex spun.  I came around the corner and almost hit him. That would have been really bad.  It took him a couple of laps to get turned back around with all the traffic and put him way back.  I was able to stay with the lead pack and get as many points as I could, which will help us down the line with the championships. I kind of liken this weekend to a golf game.  The team was scrambling after the steering broke and then we had to go to a backup car, but we persevered.  It was a pretty good race for us, considering the circumstances."
"We were happy to have have about 30 guests from Volvo Rents, which is Volvo's construction company cousin.  We had dinner with them on Friday where I saw the biggest prime rib ever.  32 ounces of red meat!  Outrageously huge!  I would also like to thank my personal sponsors Saferacer and TPC Racing for their support.  Our Saferacer cool suits are being put to good use this summer!  Now we head to Mid-Ohio where we won both races last year.  I am looking forward to that."
Randy remains fourth in the GT Drivers' Championships.  The Acura Sports Car Challenge races from Toronto will be broadcast August 18 at 2 p.m. (EDT) on NBC Sports Network.  You can also view live streaming on www.world-challengeTV.com during the races and continuously on demand after races. The next race for the Pirelli World Challenge will be at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, August 2-4.
